Applied Percussion Instructor Position

MINNEAPOLIS COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE is a two-year college located in downtown Minneapolis, serving the diverse, multi-cultural communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. We provide a comprehensive offering of developmental, liberal arts, pre-professional, professional, and technical programs. We seek a Percussion Instructor dedicated to excellence in teaching who desires to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community.

Examples of Duties:

Teaching college level applied percussion lessons in a variety of styles. Teaching at the studio level will include:

  • Development of a syllabus, weekly goals and objectives, and grading procedures.
  • Providing timely feedback and final grades complete the teaching cycle.
  • Though not required, participation in music department meetings and support of music department activities is strongly encouraged.

Appointment: Temporary/Adjunct starting Fall 2016.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of teaching private percussion lessons (applied lessons).
  • Demonstrated abilities in performing and teaching drum trap set, mallet instruments, and hand drumming in a variety of Ethnic and National styles.

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Music.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse populations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the range of material and styles you will be teaching.
  • Excellent musicianship skills – must be able to apply and teach music literacy within the context of the lesson.
  • Able to work with beginning, intermediate and advanced students.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other music faculty in sharing and developing teaching strategies, performing and other related matters.
